The
Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) expresses its strong
and
profound condemnation of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and
Washington,
DC. We consider this horrific and despicable loss of life and devastation
as
unbridled terror and unjustified criminal action uniquely directed to create
fear and
havoc.
“It is
truly a heinous act against humanity, and GOPIO condemns this brutal and
unparalleled
catastrophe against innocent citizens”, said Dr. Thomas Abraham,
President
of GOPIO from his Stamford, CT office.
GOPIO
expresses deep and abiding concern for the victims of this national tragedy,
their
families, friends and associates. It is
our fervent hope that all local, national and
international
efforts are quickly utilized to bring those responsible to justice, and to
prevent
similar attacks in the future. We fully support all measures to bring security,
calm
and confidence to all people in the affected areas.
“It
is indeed a time of deep sorrow for America, a sad time for all of us living
here, and
a
devastating blow to people of peace all over the world. We are very confident
that the
people
of the United States will overcome this national disaster and will retain its
sense
of
dignity, pride, values and freedom despite the temptation to rush for quick,
emotional
reactions
which tend to provide instant appeasement”, said Ashook Ramsaran, Secretary
General
of GOPIO.
GOPIO
has called upon its members to support the recovery and relief efforts
now
in progress by donating blood, resources and other needed items, and assist
in
volunteer services wherever required.
GOPIO is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-sectarian global
organization actively
promoting the interests of East Indians worldwide by monitoring and
addressing
current critical issues of concern, and by enhancing cooperation and
communication
between groups of East Indians living in various countries.
