Lord Diljit Rana, Gopio
International President, was agues at the Diwali celebrations in Paris on 8th
November. Lord Rana, accompanied by Lady Shruti Rana, received the Vishal
Bharati Award, at the l.uncheon.
Among the other guests at the
event was Mohan Kumar, Ambassador from India to France.
Lord Rana also met senior representatives of the French legislature and French
MEPs.
Speaking at the event, Lord Rana pledged to work closely with the French GOPIO
Chapter and other bodies across the world in building a stronger, more cohesive
international movement to ensure the interests of people of Indian origin
living abroad are effectively represented.
Lord Rana said “Gopio
International has immense potential. I want to help it realise this potential
during my term as President. I will need your understanding and help to achieve
this.
I’ve already raised a
number of issues affecting GOPIO members in discussions with Mr Anand Sharma,
the Government of India’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, and also with
Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State.
The doors to these –
and other administrations including those in the United Kingdom and Republic of
Ireland - are open to GOPIO. I intend to take advantage of this good will to
influence and policy.
I draw my inspiration
from the principles of Diwali, taking advantage of light to inspire and as a
bringer of positive energy." Go To Top
