News Release on CONFERENCE ON SENIORS - 2000.

The National Indo-American Association for Senior Citizens, in collaboration with National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA), based in Seattle, Global Organizational of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO), and Indian American Kerala Center, is holding full day 'Conference on Seniors - 2000' on April 29, 2000. The Conference starts at 9:00 A.M. and takes place at the Kerala Center, 1824 Fairfax Street, Elmont, Long Island. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included. The morning session covers 'Medicare and Medicaid' followed by a panel discussion; and the afternoon session covers 'Issues and Services for Seniors' with a focus of problems faced by the Indian seniors. The afternoon session also explores various avenues of starting senior citizen programs or center for Indian American seniors.

MORNING SESSION:

Presentations: Yolanda Sanchez, Ph.D. Project Manager, NAPCA, Seattle Ellen Bhang Project Coordinator, NAPCA, Seattle (Both serve as CO-moderators for the panel discussion)

Panelists: Sandra Escuder, Public Affairs Specialist, Social Security Administration Barry Klitsberg, Outreach Coordinator, Health Care Finance Administration Clara Woll, Coordinator for State Health Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program in Nassau County

AFTERNOON SESSION:

Issues and Services for Senior Citizens, with focus on Indian American Seniors:

Presentations: Ms. Rena Iacono, Commissioner, Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, Nassau County Purushottam Karra, President, Indo-American Senior Citizen Association of New Jersey State

Panelists: Carol Hunt (moderator and panelist): Executive Director, Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults Chan Jamoona, Founder and President, United Hindu Cultural Council Senior Citizen Center in Richmond Hill Vipin Shah, President, Old Bridge Senior Citizen Center, New Jersey Mr. Shin Son, Project Director, Senior Citizen Services and Employment Program, NAPCA, under Korean Community Association of Metro NY

The Conference participants will also discuss areas for future conferences/worshops. They will also provide NIAASC with their evaluation, suggestions and comments of the conference.
