GOVT. GETTING READY TO HOST PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS (PBD2013), Jan 7-9, 2013
The Ministry of
Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and the Kerala Govt. is getting ready to host the
11th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) from January 7-9, 2013 in Kochi,
Kerala, India. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on
January 8. The President of India will deliver the valedictory address on
January 9 and also confer the Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Awards. The pre-conference
seminars will also be organized on January 7 followed by plenary and panels
sessions beginning on January 8. Mauritius President Rajkeswur Purryag will be
the chief guest.
PBD has become a
significant forum to connect the overseas Indians from all over the world and
the PBD-2013 will be focusing on more connectivity with overseas Indians. Kerala
will be the Partner State of the 11th PBD, which would provide the
Diaspora an opportunity to understand the vibrant culture and potential of the
State. More than 2000 delegates are expected to participate in PBD-2013 from all
over the world.

GOPIO TO HONOR SEVEN FOR COMMUNITY
SERVICE AND FOUR WITH SPECIAL RECOGNITION

GOPIO International
plans to hold its annual executive and general council meetings, followed by its
conference starting on January 5 afternoon and concluding on January 6
immediately preceding, and in conjunction with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2013
events of January 7-9, 2013 in Kochi, Kerala, India.
GOPIO has selected
seven to receive community service awards at GOPIO's annual CSA Banquet to be
held on Jan. 6th in Kochi, in addition to four for special recognition including
Dr. A. Didar Singh, Secretary General of FICCI and former Secretary of MOIA.
GOPIO's Annual
Convention will take place in Kochi on Jan. 5th and 6th. The conferences will
cover country and area reports on community issues and perspectives from
different part of the world on Jan. 5th at the Presidency Hotel in Kochi.
Conferences will take place at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kochi and include Diaspora
Issues: Challenges & Opportunities; Freedom Movements in the Diaspora - Gadar &
Others; Economic Progress in the Diaspora: Making an Impact in Global
Investments & Business Entrepreneurship and Economic Progress in the Diaspora:
Investment in India; Creating India-Diaspora Science, Technology & Innovation
Knowledge Network. The convention will end with an awards banquet where NRIS and
PIOs who have done outstanding service to the community will be honored.

banquet on Jan. 6th. They include the following:

Murray Bullock is chairman of St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG) National

George Subraj - USA
George Subraj, born in Guyana and resides in New York, is CEO of Zara Realty
Holdings based in New York. He is dedicated to supporting diverse community
projects in USA and Guyana, including medical equipment and services to the
needy.

Dr Anil Mehta - Netherlands
Dr. Anil K. Mehta helps people from Indian origin, who in the Netherlands for
last thirty years without proper stay-permit or health insurance, referred
through Gurudwara's and ISKCON temples, becoming their only medical shelter.
Prof. Ajay Rane - Australia
Prof. Ajay Rane is former Chairman and current Honorary Treasurer of the Royal
Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He
serves on the Board of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society (AGES)
and is on the Urogynaecology committee of the apex organisation for Obstetrics
and Gynaecology,
Sunny Augustine - Dubai
Sunny Augustine is Managing Director of White Sands Tours and Travel, a leading
tour and holiday company in Dubai, and has been in the forefront of a historic
humanitarian task. In 1991, during the Gulf war, when thousands of hapless
expatriates trapped in the war zone, he played a key role in their evacuation
from Saudi Arabia to the safety of their respective countries.

Vasu Chanchlani - Canada
Vasu Chanchlani is a serial entrepreneur and visionary philanthropist supporting
projects having transformational impact. He started six successful technology
ventures with world class strategic investors. He is actively engaged with his
philanthropic projects, and contributes enormously for planned, sustainable and
positive impact. He co-founded Canada India Foundation (CIF) for deepening
engagement between Canada and India using public policy advocacy platform.
Ishwar Ramlutchman - South Africa
Ishwar Ramlutchman is CEO of AC Industrial Sales & Services. He is a business
entrepreneur and worked for procurement and implementation of water and
sanitation infrastructure projects for local government; corporate social
responsibility by building schools, poor feeding and health facilities for the
poor and disadvantaged in Kwa Zulu Natal.

Dr
Alwyn Didar Singh is Secretary General, Federation of Indian Chambers of
Commerce and Industry (FICCI). A former civil servant, recently served as
Secretary to Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs where he was very supportive on
issues of interest and concern of the Indian Diaspora, in particular GOPIO's
initiatives on Passport Surrender and Kolkata Memorial.

Manpreet Kaur Singh is a Well established and prominent journalist in print,
broadcast and online media for over 23 years. Developed reference tool on
preservation of history of Indian migration to Australia, prescribed by
Education Services Australia and used by high school students. Worked for
community issues/ social causes, worked alongside police and community
organizations, for welfare of Indian Australians
Ashok Rao - USA
Ashok Rao
is an entrepreneur with five successful high technology start-ups and one of the
first Indian Americans to take a company public on NASDAQ. He is a professional,
keynote speaker at numerous Global Conferences, TIE Retreats and Chapters, as
well as Rice University and Franklin Pierce University. He is a motivational
speaker for Fortune 500 companies and various trade organizations. He is
Chairman of TIE Global Board of Trustees, the world's largest organization of
entrepreneurs.
Dr. Awtar Singh
(Posthumously) - USA
Chair, Board of Trustees, Indian American Heritage Foundation, recognizing and
rewarding qualified high school students in Southern California; Instituted
Perpetual Fellowship at University of California, Berkeley, covering
out-of-state tuition and fees, books, and living expenses.. Instituted Awtar and

a day long trip is planned for a visit to a Biodiversity project managed by
ATREE about 1:30 Hours away from Kochi. The Cost for a full day trip is

GOPIO is a
non-partisan, non-sectarian global organization with chapters in several
countries, actively promoting the interests of people of Indian origin worldwide
by monitoring and addressing current critical issues of concern, and by
enhancing cooperation and communication between groups of Indians living in
various countries.
GOPIO Individual Life membership is open to all who
believe in the mission of GOPIO. The one- time fee is $5,000 for Platinum Life
Membership, $2,500 for Gold Life Membership and $1,500 Silver Life Membership
and half the amount for each category for those from developing countries and
India.
GOPIO is looking forward to opening chapters in all
major cities of the world so as to network people of Indian origin all over the
